While our resin bound aggregates are generally low maintenance, it is still occasionally necessary to give them a little care. Being outside exposed to the elements, it is inevitable that they will become dirty and subject to stains if not cared for. The good news is though, there’s only a little maintenance required and it’s fairly easy to undertake
Allowing leaves and other debris to settle on your driveway will encourage more debris to accumulate, and this could potentially lead to mould and other unwanted intruders. This is fairly easy to overcome though with regular sweeping and an outdoor broom. Sweeping regularly will not only help to prevent any problems from occurring, it can also help you to identify something as soon as possible.
It is possible that that moss and algae could form on your resin bound aggregates. Much of the time, these can be removed easily with a stiff broom, although they can sometimes be more stubborn. Should they not wish to come off easily, then you could try using a pressure hose. You could also try using a weak detergent if you are still having difficulty, but be mindful not to use a product that could potentially stain your driveway. To be sure, try testing the solution on a tucked away part of the driveway first – or just read the label! Makes more sense!
Chewing gum is notoriously difficult to remove from any surface, and resin bound aggregates are no exception. With the right methods and equipment however, it can be made relatively easy to deal with. One effective method of removing gum is first to freeze it. Once frozen, it will become brittle, and can then be removed with relative ease. Various products are available that will help you freeze gum, rendering it ready for removal.
Thoroughly clearing all traces of weeds before having your driveway laid should hopefully prevent more from growing on your driveway, but it is possible that you might still find some growing. A standard weed killer product should be all that you need to deal with any weeds that grow on your driveway.
Oil spills may wash away with the rain, but they could cause stains so it is advisable to clean them as soon as you can. This can usually be done quite easily with some warm water and detergent, but be sure to rinse properly once you have finished.
