Resin driveways are becoming increasingly popular with discerning homeowners. Unlike concrete, resin bound driveways are not prone to cracking and are available in many different colours, depending on what aggregate you select. It is common to hire a professional to install a resin driveway, but with so many excellent resin bond kits available from our site, a competent DIYer can get the job done in a weekend.
If this sounds like a project you could manage, here are some dos and don’ts to consider!
Choosing the right aggregate is essential. Stick to aggregates from quality suppliers, or you could end up with a dusty product that doesn’t adhere to the resin properly. We stock a wide range of aggregates guaranteed to offer optimum performance. Talk to us if you need advice on which one to choose.
It doesn’t take long for the resin to build up on tools such as trowels and wheelbarrows. Not only does it make it harder to clean up at the end of the day, but a build-up of resin on a trowel could lead to you over trowelling the area. If you want a nice smooth finish, use white spirit to clean up excess cured resin and place a sheet of heavy-duty plastic in your wheelbarrow.
We are here to help you with your resin driveway installation, so don’t hesitate to ask for help! We can advise on all things, from tools and aggregate to resin bond kits and techniques. If you’re unsure, ask the question.
Water + resin causes a chemical reaction that will spoil the surface of your resin driveway. For obvious reasons, don’t attempt a resin installation if rain is forecast. Aggregates need to be bone dry before installation. Also, check your resin bound kits to make sure there are no milky substances in the resin. If there are, it has been exposed to water.
Don’t give in to temptation and buy cheap resin bond kids. You get what you pay for!
Don’t let your kids, the dog, the cat, or the postman near your newly installed driveway for at least eight hours, or you’ll be living with their footprints for a very long time!
For any more advice on what to do and what not to do with your first resin install, don’t hesitate to get in touch! We are always happy to help!
